October 17 Update
Late Registration: Catch-Up Rehearsal & Late Audition
For those who registered late for JHC this year, I am holding a one-time-only Catch-Up Rehearsal on Saturday, October 21, from 3:30-5:30pm at Asbury United Methodist Church. I will help you learn the music the other singers learned in pre-audition rehearsals, and I will explain what the audition structure will be for late registrants.
If you are a late registrant (or someone who has not yet registered), please contact Executive Director Bill Lytle ASAP at ExecutiveDirector@theYCHC.org to arrange a time to pick up a Materials Packet that includes sheet music, important information, and required forms. Once you have the Packet, start listening to the provided recordings of the songs listed in the “What to Practice This Week” section below (instructions on how to access the recordings are in the Packet). I look forward to meeting you this coming weekend!
Singers already accepted into JHC, this is your last chance to recruit your musical friends. Please share the Late Registration info with them so they have the opportunity to audition for JHC. Thanks!
First Rehearsal
Our first major rehearsal (including time with a wonderful guest clinician) is Sunday, October 22, from 1:00-5:00pm. Please make sure you come prepared knowing all of your pitches and rhythm in the excerpts listed below.
WHAT TO PRACTICE THIS WEEK
(This is the same list as was published on October 9. It includes the excerpts you learned for auditions plus the new experts that were assigned as due for October 22.)
“All the Pretty Little Horses” (timestamps 0:00-1:29 on the recording)
NEW: measures 1-19
Review: measures 20-56
“Defying Gravity” (timestamps 1:48-3:22 on the recording)
NEW: measures 62-92
Review: measures 93-118
“Hine Ma Tov” (timestamps 0:22-1:01 on the recording)
Review: measures 10-25
“Hold Fast to Dreams” (whole song)
NEW: measures 1-42 and 84-end
Review: measures 43-83
“Inveniam” (timestamps 0:00-0:42 and 1:41-2:20 on the recording)
NEW: measures 1-22
Review: measures 56-77
Practice Tips
Download rehearsal tracks to your device and listen to them frequently while riding the bus, doing chores, running, etc.
Several times a week, sit down with the sheet music and really focus on making sure you are accurately able to sing the assigned measures for each song.
DO NOT WAIT until the last minute to cram everything in. It is very obvious at rehearsals who is well-prepared and who is not. Be the good musician you are and take personal responsibility to learn the assigned excerpts well.
Dismissal Procedures
Students will remain the building until their parent/guardian’s vehicle is in line-of-sight in the small parking lot in front of the glass doors. JHC students are not permitted to walk across the alley to the far parking lot alone. If a parent/guardian prefers, they may walk to the portico to escort their student to the car, but they may not enter the building during dismissal time.
Tuition Giveaway
If you recruit a friend to audition for JHC and that friend is selected to sing with us, your name will be entered into a drawing for free tuition. Please send me an email at JHCconductor@theYCHC.org and list the name of each friend you have recruited this year who has been accepted into JHC. You earn one drawing entry for each friend you recruit who is selected.
Logistics Coordinators
We are looking for 1 or 2 parents to serve as Logistics Coordinators this year to help with choir logistics for JHC rehearsals and concerts. Interested parents should email Executive Director Bill Lytle at ExecutiveDirector@theYCHC.org to apply. There is a $500 stipend for this position.
